Introduction. The functioning of electricity markets in Europe was considered. It is proved that energy exchanges in this market segment appear after or simultaneously with the formation of the day-ahead spot market. The comparative analysis of future and spot contracts on the European energy exchanges was done. For the future domestic market, the specifi cations of hourly spot contracts and monthly electricity ones on the electricity of base and peak load have been offered. It was observed the processes of price formation for future contracts on the electricity in European exchanges by calculating Spot Indices of certain countries that can be actual for Ukraine within the integration into the European energy markets. Purpose. The purpose of the article is a theoretical generalization of the practice of using electricity derivatives by energy exchanges in Europe and development on their basis proposals of possible electricity futures contract specifi cations for the domestic market. Results. A spot contract for Ukrainian energy exchanges is the authors’ proposal and is advisory in its nature. The structure of a contract specifi cation is due to the lighting of the key aspects of exchange-traded contracts. In further hourly contracts may be combined into blocks. Further development of Ukrainian electricity exchanges contracts depends on many factors such as the liquidity of the exchange, the number of bidders and their electricity needs, the process of market entry for new participants. To predict the infl uence of these factors on the development of ex- changes and the emergence of new exchanges segments of energy market now is impossible. The proposed futures contracts can be traded as a part of automatic trades that take place in two stages as auction and in continuous trade. The main segment will be formed in a continuous mode in which all participants are informed about the actual situation in the market and all the concluded agreements. The continuous trading allows performing transactions at different prices within one business day. The last traded price becomes the fi nal price of a certain product. Conclusion. Theoretical generalization of the practice of using electricity derivatives in energy exchanges of Europe allowed to suggest an electricity future contract specifi cation for the future Ukrainian market. The article proved the necessity of developing the domestic spot electrical exchanges with key elements of the European model. It would allow producers and consumers to have all benefi ts of exchanges trading, namely the price transparency, reduction of transaction and monitoring costs, availability of market information and the possibility of predicting future prices.
