Abstract
Introduction. Global challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and environmental degradation of rural areas highlight the urgent need to establish a new model of agricultural sector development. Under these conditions, the green transformation of agricultural enterprises becomes a key factor in ensuring competitiveness, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility. It encompasses not only technological modernisation but also a shift in managerial, financial, and behavioural paradigms of economic activity. The absence of a coherent theoretical framework for the content and mechanisms of green transformation at the enterprise level necessitates further academic inquiry. Purpose. The article aims to provide a theoretical justification of the essence and content of the green transformation of agricultural enterprises, taking into account European experience, national strategic priorities, and current trends in sustainable development. Methodology. The research methodology is based on systemic and comparative approaches that allow a comprehensive assessment of theoretical foundations and practical mechanisms of green transformation in the agricultural sector. The study applies methods of structural–functional analysis, institutional modelling, and comparative analysis of EU (European Green Deal, Farm to Fork Strategy, CAP 2023–2027) and Ukrainian (National Economic Strategy 2030) strategic documents. Content analysis of academic publications and analytical reports by international organisations (FAO, OECD, UNDP, EBRD) was also conducted. Results. The concept of “green transformation” is clarified as a process of systemic ecological modernisation of enterprises aimed at combining economic growth with production decarbonisation and natural capital restoration. Structural components of transformation are defined: technological (energy-efficient and bioenergy solutions), organisational-managerial (environmental management and corporate sustainability), and institutional-financial (state incentives, eco-investment, and ESG-based financing). A comparative analysis of EU and Ukrainian strategic approaches demonstrates that the European model is more systemic and measurable, whereas the Ukrainian framework remains in an early stage of institutional formation. The activities of the MHP agroholding, implementing bioenergy projects certified under ISCC EU standards, serve as practical confirmation. Conclusions. The green transformation of Ukraine’s agricultural enterprises is a strategic pathway toward sustainable development, harmonising economic, environmental, and social priorities. Enhancing its effectiveness requires institutional strengthening, financial support, the development of environmental management systems, and the establishment of unified progress indicators. Future research should focus on creating an integrated monitoring system for green transformation indicators at enterprise and regional levels.
