Євген Олесницький – депутат галицького сейму та австрійського парламенту: ретроспективний погляд на деякі сторінки життя та діяльності

Abstract

Розкриваючи громадсько-політичну діяльність депутата австрійського парламенту та Галицького крайового сейму Євгена Олесницького, автор висвітлює процес становлення української політичної еліти та її парламентську боротьбу з відстоювання національних прав та свобод українського населення Східної Галичини в другій половині ХІХ ст. у складі Австро-Угорської імперії. At the present stage of development of domestic jurisprudence scholarly attention to the problems of formation and development of state-building traditions of the Ukrainian people increased significantly. Of particular interest is the experience of parliamentary activity of Ukrainians in Eastern Galicia, which for the second half of the nineteenth century became the center of political development of Ukrainian lands. Ukraine’s independence and the development of national science of history and law have created an in-depth study of life and work of the people who were organizers and direct participants in the struggle for the Ukrainian national state. An issue concerning personification of history, biographical research, investigation of activity and political heritage of famous politicians of the given period have be- come one of the important tasks of modern science of the history of state and law of Ukraine. Works devoted to the study of parliamentary activity of Ukrainians in representative bodies of Austria-Hungary now play an increasingly important role. The attention of researchers is attracted first of all to the names of the Ukrainian political and public figures whose activity and creativity was falsified in the past or even was removed from the scientific and public circulation. Eugene Olesnytskyy, deputy of the Austrian parliament and regional Galician Seіm belonged to these figures which were at the forefront of the struggle for national liberation and cultural development of Western lands. He made a significant contribution to the development of social and political life of the Ukrainians of Eastern Galicia.
