МАТЕРІАЛИ ПЕРІОДИЧНИХ ВИДАНЬ УКРАЇНСЬКОЇ ДІАСПОРИ США ЯК ДЖЕРЕЛО ІНФОРМАЦІЇ ПРО КРЕДИТНУ КООПЕРАТИВУ «САМОПОМІЧ»

Abstract

Стаття розглядає україномовну періодику США як джерело інформації про діяльність Товариства українців в Америці «Самопоміч» та засновану ним однойменну кредитівку у контексті збереження національної ідентичності. Досліджувані матеріали дають відомості про роботу кредитної кооперативи в галузі освіти, культури, громадської активності, гуманітарної допомоги, що дозволяє зробити висновок: хоч і непомітний, кооперативний рух є важливим чинником функціонування американського українства, адже тільки об’єднана в такий взаємодопомоговий рух українська діаспора могла стати сильним джерелом збереження національної ідентичності та української ідеї. This article considers the Ukrainian periodicals in the USA as the source of information on the activities of the Ukrainian Society «Samopomich» in America and the credit founded by this Society in the context of national identity preservation. The investigated materials provide information on the work of credit cooperatives in the field of education, culture, social activism, humanitarian assistance. All this allows to make the conclusion, although it is unnoticeable, the cooperative movement has been the important factor in the functioning of American Ukrainians, because being united in such a movement of mutual help Ukrainian Diaspora could become a strong source of preserving the national identity and the Ukrainian idea.
