Abstract

The problem of translation skills development of future IT-specialists in English classes at University is highlighted in this paper. Related work information is analyzed. The peculiarities of different kinds of translating are described. The students' skills required for translation of scientific and technical texts are identified as well as the main lexical and grammatical difficulties, which IT-specialists can face with while translating specialised texts of their subject field. A system of exercises for teaching translation skills to students of IT-specialties is developed. This system consists of three groups of exercises: preparatory, which are for the development of perceptual abilities of students and for the development of their memory; operational, which are for the formation of habits of oral translation; translational (interpretive), which are for the development of oral translation skills. Each of these groups includes the appropriate types of exercises aimed at developing students' translation skills and habits. In addition to developing the translation skills, the proposed system of exercises will promote the development of common psychological mechanisms of translation activities, namely, memory, information perception and its comprehension during learning activities in English classes at University. These skills and abilities are essential for IT specialists who work in international environments.
